Have you ever thought of having a feature wall in your living room or lounge? If done correctly, it can do much to improve the livingability and modern look of your interior, adding depth to a room. Often we think it’s best not to go over the top and be subtle when it comes to walls that feature. A lot of options are available here; anything from a different shade or paint texture can be used all the way up to highly decorative and artistic painting work or a completely different surface.
1. Paint Your Walls
The easiest, simplest way to create a beautiful feature wall is by painting it. Colour selection is probably the trickiest part-for some ideas, we would recommend talking to a colour consultant or at the very least looking online. A message to us? Usually works bright colours contrasting with darker colours. It’s fairly straightforward to choose the type of paint and apply it, even for amateurs.
2. Use Creative Wallpapers
Wallpaper was huge back in the 1950s and it appears to have made a return in the 2010’s. Yes, rolling it on and removing it when the time comes can be a challenge, but making it the focal point in a room – rather than being used on all walls – can be truly effective. The best part is that there are so many wallpaper options in terms of both design and colour.
3. Clever Use of Brick & Rocks
Brick and rock feature walls require more work and expertise than many do-it-yourselfers have, so in this case we would highly recommend bringing in a qualified decorator. In some cases – and in the 80’s and 90’s this was very common – leaving exposed brick in old homes was often less costly to repair damaged plaster etc.
4. Timber Paneling/Shelving
Timber walls create a very warm, cosy atmosphere, particularly in contrast to concrete or tiled walls. Again, there are plenty of choices here with wide and narrow boards, different types of timber frames and the painting option. Constructing wall shelves is another way to go, mixing practicality and homely charm.
